For my money, I thought the film over-played the “ homophobia” hand a bit too much, particularly when it came to the swim team. Sports play an important role in the film, and we get a glimpse inside the filmmakers’ perspective of the acceptance of gay athletes in sports.
It centers on two high school swimmers and best friends, Franky and Ballas, whose lifelong friendship is tested when the two boys experience something together one night that seems difficult - or even impossible - to explain.Įach points the finger at the other as classmates take sides in the fallout of this unexpected tryst, and the boys are left trying to figure out what it all meant. ‘ Giant Little Ones’ is a surprising exploration of sex and sexuality in a somewhat unconventional love seesaw that will keep you guessing until the very lost shot of the film. A special little film is making its way through the theaters right now, and it’s well worth the 90 minute run time.
